Summertime

Summertime is...

sitting under the umbrella at the beach

next to the dunes

with sandy feet.

Summertime is...enjoying watermelon with pink juice running down your arms

and later, eating a popsicle with no pants on.

Big boy bed!

We'd been telling Jack for awhile that soon he was going to start sleeping in a big boy bed, so it wasn't a surprise to him when we brought one home last Wednesday (it was FINALLY in stock at Ikea). He was SO excited! I'd been a little worried about how the transition would go, since I've heard some stories from friends whose kids would get up all hours of the night and get out of bed and play or wander into their parents' bedroom. I guess Jack was ready though, because that first night, we didn't hear a peep out of him until the next morning when he called for us to get him up! And as I type this, he is going on hour three of his nap, so I think he is officially done with the crib. I was actually a little sad when I realized that we wouldn't put him down in his crib anymore...very soon, though we'll have another little guy that will fill that empty bed...Have I mentioned that they are going to share their room?

He helped Rob put it together...He wanted to be involved every step of the way.

When bedtime finally came, he didn't even hesitate to climb in.

I loved being able to read his book right next to him in the bed.

All tucked in with Gobble-Gobble by his side.

Jack's bubble machine!

As promised, once Jack woke up from his nap after the potty excitement, we headed right to the store to pick up his new toy. He was so happy and couldn't wait to get home to play with it. It was raining that day, so the inaugural bubble making event was inside. He seriously loves his bubble maker...we all had so much fun that afternoon.

Enjoy this little video!

P.S.  There have been two more successes on the potty since the first! YAY!

Father's Day

The weather for Father's Day weekend could not have been more perfect...On Saturday, we decided to take a drive and stopped for lunch at Evelyn's, which is right on the water. We had awesome lobster rolls...They were done so simply... just big chunks of lobster, in a warm, buttered hot dog bun with a side of mayo. YUM.

Jack wasn't very interested in trying the lobster...

But he did help us eat our fries.

Next stop was Gray's ice cream, where for the first time, Jack inhaled his dish of chocolate and then he finished off Rob's maple walnut in a cone...

He couldn't get enough of it...he's finally an ice cream fan!

He used to turn it away saying, it's too cold. Mommy. Can you warm it up? Ha!

Summer!

This is how Jack and I brought in the first day of summer...

Eating popsicles...

And watermelon...

(Yes, Jack ate those three pieces himself)

Potty talk

Jack's been more and more interested in sitting on the potty lately. Though, that might have something to do with the animal crackers or chocolate chips that he gets if he at least takes off his diaper and sits down on it...Well anyway, a friend of mine bribed her son with a little $2 bubble machine that she bought for him once he pooped in the potty. We were at their house on Monday, and Jack LOVED this bubble machine...I told him that when he goes on the potty that I would get him one...he talked about it all day long...and would even look at me with side eyes and whisper, bubble machine, to me. I just kept telling him what he had to do to get one. Well it only took one day of waiting because last night after his bath and before I could even dry him off he went right for the potty and peed! And wait there's more! Today before his nap he asked to sit on the potty again...He sat for a few minutes and by then I just thought he was stalling to avoid his nap. He asked for a book and so we read. Midway through the third read of the same book, he started making the poop face...and he pooped in the potty!!!! He was so proud of himself and was grinning ear to ear. So after his nap, we are going straight to store to get him that bubble machine.
