12 months

This is going to be the last month of trying to get a picture of Wyatt on the floor for my monthly project. He just wants to move! To get this shot, Rob was entertaining him by waving a toy over my head and we got lucky to get him smiling before he flipped over and crawled away. I usually talk about what he's been up to over the past month here but I already did that in his birthday post. 

When I started this project, I knew I wanted to put all 12 months together somehow. I found a great (free!) app for collage making (called: photo collage creator) and had fun making this. He was so tiny at 1 week! It's amazing how much he changed in one year.

He had his one year check up on Friday. Here are his stats...

Weight: 20 lbs 8 oz.

Height: 30 inches (I am not sure how accurate his height is. It took me and Rob to hold him down while the doctor measured. He was sooo wiggly!)

He also got three shots plus his blood taken for hemoglobin and lead (routine for 1 year olds). He was not a happy camper. 

I am going to keep taking his monthly pictures, I just have to find a new spot to take them. 

PS. I know that last bunch of posts have been Wyatt-centric. I promise you'll see Jack very soon!

Wyatt's 10 and 11 month updates

Let me just dust the cob webs off this place before I get started...

My excuse is that we've been busy over the last month. For the first half of July we were in Washington visiting Grandma and Grandpa (more on that later, I still have to go through hundreds of pictures from our trip). And since we've been back, Wyatt's been on a sleep strike, so it's been hard getting chunks of time to focus on this space of mine.  

I really want to get Wyatt's 10 and 11 month updates down (this is his baby book after all), since the details are already starting to run together. (It's crazy how quickly that happens.)

In his tenth month he mastered crawling, got lots of new teeth (including a molar), figured out how to clap his hands together and flew on an airplane for the first time. I also tried really hard to get him down to only one nursing a night and before we left for Washington, he was doing great. He (and Jack) adjusted so well to west coast time and had no problem sleeping or napping while we were there. It was coming home and getting back on east coast time that was brutal for them both and Wyatt is still not back to his old sleeping habits.

At 11 months, while we were in Washington, Wyatt started to eat pretty much 100% table food. Anything we put in front of him, he'll eat. Well, except for bananas...he still won't touch those. Last night we had steak tips and asparagus and I could not cut up the pieces fast enough for him. He loved it. I only hope that his eating habits continue through toddlerhood and beyond. Also, he dances and it's adorable. Anytime there is music or even a sound with a beat, he smiles and rocks. 

He can climb stairs and he crawls incredibly fast. I really think he'll be walking soon. As far as sleeping goes, well there's not much of that happening. Since we've been back from WA, he's only been taking one, short nap a day and getting him to sleep, especially when he wakes in the night, has been so difficult. All of a sudden he needs rocking and back rubbing on top of nursing. Some nights, it takes hours for him to fall asleep.

He is such a sweet boy, full of energy and curiosity. I can not believe that he is going to be one this month!!

9 months

The months are just flying by. I can't believe Wyatt is 9 months old! He's had a few firsts this month. He can pull himself to stand to grab remote controls or take apart train tracks on the train table. Yeah, Jack is really excited about this. I can not take my eyes off of Wyatt for a second when he's down on the floor. He is so determined when he sees something he wants, I know that soon, he's going to be climbing up furniture and then we'll really be in trouble. He can sit up on his own, but he rarely sits still for long. In the last week, he's started to crawl on his hands and knees, but he's faster when he's on his belly and pulling himself forward with his arms. I am sure he'll get the hang of crawling very soon.

He and Jack have been sharing a room for the past month and that's been going really well. Even though Wyatt is not the best sleeper at night, Jack never wakes up when he's crying. He's still not sleeping through the night and usually wakes up around 2ish and then he's up for the day between 5 and 6.

He's a good eater. He loves yogurt and watermelon. Avocado is still his favorite though. He nurses about 4 times during the day. Once when he wakes up in the morning, before each of his two naps, and at bed time.

He's growing so fast and barely fits into his 9 month sized clothes. I wish some one would tell him that there's no rush to grow and get bigger.

8 months

This month was pretty exciting as far as Wyatt firsts go.

He said his first word...Ma ma ma ma. It's pretty much the cutest thing ever.

If he's in the mood, he'll wave back when he's waved at. This is very close to the cutest thing ever.

I finally broke down, after searching craigslist and consignment shops, and bought a new, free standing jumperoo (this one). He absolutely loves it. I should have gotten one months ago once I realized that our doorway jumper was not going to work for us. (Our doorways are so narrow that when he gets going, he bonks his head on the door jam. Not good.) I have an adorable video of the jumping bean that I will post soon.

He's eating three meals a day now and he still can not stand bananas. Avocados are still tops. He's also a big fan of yogurt. A couple of days ago I put a couple of puffs on his tray and without hesitation he picked one up and put it in his mouth. He only has to work on letting go of it once his fingers reach his mouth. He chews it with his three front teeth. (Also, close to the cutest thing ever.) 

He is still taking good naps in the morning and afternoon. At night though, he's been waking up 2 to 3 times and then waking at about six AM to start the day. He is STILL in his little co-sleeper and has yet to sleep in his crib. We are dreading the transition into the boys' shared room since he still wakes up every few hours. I am determined though to make the switch this month. 

He is nursing about 5 times throughout the day and when he wakes up at night. I am still not ready to let him cry at night, simply because feeding him is so easy and we all sleep better for it. 

He's been sick for the past couple of weeks with horrible congestion and cough. He's had no fever and he is still a happy boy despite the sneezing and coughing. The doctor said it's not uncommon for this to last for 3 to 4 weeks. Yuck. When I took him to the Doctor's office, they weighed him...he's up to 18 lbs 12 ounces! 

His little personality is really starting to shine through. He LOVES his big brother. He follows Jack's every move with his eyes and has already started to covet the toys that Jack plays with (to Jack's dismay.) I can see already that we are going to have a little dare devil on our hands as he tries to keep up with Jack. 

I can't wait to see what surprises Wyatt has in store for us this month!

7 months

Wyatt is going to be crawling and sitting up in no time. He can get on all fours when he really wants a toy that is out of his reach and sort of scoot closer to grab it. He also rolls around the floor and puts everything that he can get his hands on into his mouth. He's been eating two meals a day for about a week. He's tried, bananas, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, peas, carrots and avocados. Avocados are his favorite by a long shot with carrots coming in second. The only thing that he does not seem to like are bananas. He can never finish his bowl of those.

He's suddenly fallen into a sleep schedule and literally went from a terrible napper one day to a two nap a day baby the next. It's a relief to be able to get him down without endless screaming. His naps range from 1 to 3 hours long in the morning and afternoon. He goes down at about 9:30 am and then again around 1:30ish depending on the length of his morning nap and after I've put Jack to bed for his nap. I always nurse him to sleep. At night, I start getting him ready for bed around 7 and he's usually sleeping by 8. He's still waking twice a night around 1 am and 4 am, but he nurses for just a few minutes and he goes right back to sleep. I usually fall asleep while I am feeding him, so I don't think I am missing out on too much sleep.

I think that this month is going to be interesting as he becomes more and more mobile! I'll keep you posted!

6 months

Dear Wyatt,
I can't believe that six whole months have passed since you, our hurricane baby, were born. It seems like yesterday that we made the drive home from New Hampshire as a family of four. Only four days before, we were playing it safe and leaving our home as a family of three. We planned ahead for the highly unlikely scenario that you would arrive during the storm. I packed a couple of tiny outfits for you and Daddy installed your car seat, just in case. The morning you were born Daddy and I were laughing; saying over and over, we can't believe it. Besides the day that Jack made me a Mom, August 29th, 2011, is my very favorite day. If there was one day that I could ever do over again, it would be your birthday, and I wouldn't change a thing.

Mommy

5 months

Oh Wyatt, you are getting cuter by the day. Your huge smiles and squishy thighs make me one happy Mommy. I don't think it will be much longer until you have a tooth since you are drooling like crazy and are constantly trying to eat your entire fist. You haven't tried any food yet, but I think that will change very soon. We still swaddle you up at night in this (one of the greatest baby inventions ever)...it keeps your arms snug with no escape, but you can still move them around. We tried putting you in just a sleep sack with your arms free a couple of nights ago, but you wanted no part of it and kept waking up, so we zipped you back into your cozy straight jacket and you slept much better. We've slowly been trying to get you to bed earlier and earlier and for the past couple of nights you've been in bed at 8:30ish. Once you are down for the night though, you are unpredictable. One night you can sleep for a 7 to 8 hour stretch and the next you are up every 3 hours. Napping is also different every day for you. Usually, you only take one nap a day, sometimes for 4 hours and others for just one hour (like today.) Even on the days that you don't seem to sleep much, you still flash us that smile whenever we smile at you. You give me the best smiles and belly laughs when I am holding you and say, Mamama. I don't know why you find that so hilarious, but I'll take it anyway.

4 months

Wyatt had his four month check up last week. He weighs 15 lbs 1 ounce (50%) and is 26 inches tall (80%). It's amazing to me that he's more than doubled his weight in just four months. I checked Jack's baby book and he weighed 15 lbs 10 ounces at his four month check up! Wyatt is so chubby, and squishy and he loves to smile and laugh, especially when I bounce him on my knee and sing jingle bells. He loves that song. He can roll over from his back to his stomach from either side like a champ and he's been drooling like crazy. I don't see any teeth yet, but I think they're coming. Everything that he can get hold of goes directly to his mouth, which is so different than Jack. He never put anything in his mouth, I know we were lucky to not have to worry about that with him. Wyatt's going to be a different story though. For the most part he's been sleeping well. Some nights (like last night) he's up every couple of hours and other nights he sleeps for seven hours straight. He still sleeps in our room...I am in no rush to move him to the crib. I'm not looking forward to that transition since the boys are going to share a room and I have no idea how Jack will do with his new and sometimes noisy roommate.

3 months

3 months old! Time is seriously flying by. Wyatt is getting chubbier and more adorable every day. He smiles all the time and even has the best belly laugh. His dark hair is starting to thin out and he has some bald spots, just like Jack did at this age. I am sure that he will be a little blondie in no time. He has been sleeping great. Last night I nursed him for the last time at 11 and I didn't hear from him again until 6! When he wakes up in the middle of the night, he rarely cries. He just let's me know he's hungry by making these cute little grunting sounds and he wiggles around in his bed until I scoop him up. He is still fussy in the evenings. The only thing that makes him happy when he's fussy is standing up with him. It's funny how babies like to have a little elevation.

2 months

Wyatt has started smiling! There aren't many things better than seeing him look right at you and give you a big, happy, toothless smile. 

He seems to be growing so fast. At his 2 month check up last week, he weighed 12 lbs 3 ounces and was 23 inches tall! Jack had the EXACT same measurements at his 2 month check up only Jack was technically 9 weeks old and Wyatt was only 7 weeks, 4 days old at the time.  Wyatt's been sleeping pretty well at night and manages to have one 5 hour stretch most nights.  During the day, he's been pretty easy and only cries if he's hungry. But for the past couple of weeks, between 8 and 11 at night, he's been incredibly fussy. When he's crying during this time, the only thing that calms him down is if we stand up and rock him. Nursing him, giving him a pacifier, changing his diaper, or cuddling don't work. I know it's just a phase and it will pass, but it's pretty trying and not fun to see him so upset. The doctor said that between 6 and 12 weeks it's normal for babies to have some form of colic and she would consider Wyatt's case pretty mild. I am just happy that once 11 o'clock rolls around, he finally nurses and then sleeps and this doesn't go on for all hours of the night.
He's been a real cuddler too...he only likes the swing if he's going to sleep which is so different than Jack. Jack was perfectly happy just hanging out, swinging away. Wyatt would much prefer being held, which I really can't complain about. :)

Wyatt is 1 month!

Is that crazy or what? Do all babies grow this fast? It's amazing that in just a couple of weeks, Wyatt has become a squishy baby with chubby legs and cheeks. At his well-baby check up last week, he was already 9 lbs, 5 ounces and 21 1/2 inches long! 

I am getting the hang of sleeping for a couple hours at a time at night, and Wyatt has definitely gotten the hang of nursing (if you couldn't tell).  I remember that laid-back Jack would sometimes take 45 minutes or more to fill up. Wyatt is usually done in 15 minutes.
