6 months

Dear Wyatt,
I can't believe that six whole months have passed since you, our hurricane baby, were born. It seems like yesterday that we made the drive home from New Hampshire as a family of four. Only four days before, we were playing it safe and leaving our home as a family of three. We planned ahead for the highly unlikely scenario that you would arrive during the storm. I packed a couple of tiny outfits for you and Daddy installed your car seat, just in case. The morning you were born Daddy and I were laughing; saying over and over, we can't believe it. Besides the day that Jack made me a Mom, August 29th, 2011, is my very favorite day. If there was one day that I could ever do over again, it would be your birthday, and I wouldn't change a thing.

I love you, my little peanut.

First taste

Last night I made mashed sweet potatoes to have with dinner and before I added the sour cream and chili powder, I set some aside for Wyatt. I was excited about starting him off with food that we were eating and having dinner as a family, so we dug out the tiny baby spoons from the back of the drawer and hoped for the best.

At first he was curious.

Then he was all smiles. I think he knew that something new was about to go down.

He couldn't get that spoon in his mouth fast enough.

Then he wasn't so sure about it.

He looked at me, like he was thinking, Really Mom?

Clearly Disapproving.

And here, he's afraid we'd try it again. (We didn't.) He spit that bite right out and that was the end of his first taste. We'll try again in a few days with something different...maybe some mashed bananas?

In other news...Wyatt slept through the night last night (8 pm to 5:30 am)! He's been so unpredictable with his sleep. The night before, he was up every 3 - 4 hours, so who knows what tonight has in store, but I'll take it! It's certainly the longest stretch he's had. Naps on the other hand are not happening. He's the only baby I know that doesn't snooze during the day. I don't think he wants to miss anything and wants to keep up with his big brother (who also likes to forgo nap time and can be heard running around in his room between 1 and 3 pm).

On the mend

On a whim a few weeks ago, I bought the NoseFrida at Bellani Maternity, a great local baby store. The idea of it completely grossed me out the first time I'd heard of it (it's used by literally sucking the snot from baby's nose), but it had great reviews and I was curious. Now after having first hand experience using it on a very snotty nosed baby, I've learned it's not any more gross than dealing with baby snot any other way and it seriously works! (So much better than the bulb syringe) It's been a lifesaver over the past week and was a purchase I am so glad I made. It's amazing how much it helped to clear Wyatt's nose so he could breath and nurse with less struggling. (We even used it for Jack when his nose was at its worst.)
Even though we still have to use this for Wyatt's stuffy nose a couple times a day, the boys have finally turned the corner after more than a week of fevers, congestion, coughing, and horrible stuffy noses. I never imagined it was possible for two little boys to produce so much snot. We made two trips to the doctor's office for each of them. The first was a diagnosis of bad colds for the two of them. Two days later we brought Wyatt back, because he just didn't seem right and it turns out he had an ear infection. As we were leaving and getting into the car, Jack told us that his ear hurt, so an hour later (that's when the doctor could see us) he was also diagnosed with an ear infection, his first ever. They are both on antibiotics which Jack doesn't mind taking at all, but giving Wyatt his medicine twice a day is pure torture. He HATES it and just screams as we try to get him to swallow the teaspoon of pink medicine. It is no fun and we have 5 more days of the torture left to endure. Ugh.

Germs and a photo challenge

Both boys are sound asleep right now...They are both sick with horrible colds. It's the first time Wyatt has been sick and it just awful watching him cough and sneeze constantly. They both have low grade fevers and are perpetual snot factories. Jack's poor nose is like a faucet and I can hardly keep up with it. I am going to need a hazmat crew come over to disinfect our house after they are over this. I only hope that Rob and I can manage to not catch it, which would seriously be a miracle since I've been sneezed and coughed on for two days straight.

Now to switch subjects...I have been playing along with a fun photo challenge since the first of the month. It just gives me some extra motivation to take pictures with daily prompts (not that having two adorable boys isn't enough). I took all of these with my iphone which I have to admit is what I grab when I want to snap a quick picture these days. I think my Canon is starting to feel left out, so I'll have to do something about that soon! Here is a link to the rest of the prompts for February if you're interested.

Snow Day Beach Day

Winter has been a bust so far. I am not really complaining though, since I am already dreaming about our bulbs starting to make an appearance.  Jack might say otherwise since he's only played in the snow a couple of times.

His first time out, he wore a path in the snow and just ran back and forth in his footprints while Rob was shoveling the driveway. This kept him entertained for awhile.

We bundled him up and covered him with a blanket and Rob pulled him in his sled to the park. He came back with icicles on his eyelashes and to a cup of hot chocolate. I only wish I had gotten a picture of his eyelashes, it was cute.

Fast forward a couple of weeks to the first day of February.  It was 60 degrees and since neither of the boys were taking naps (ugh), I decided a trip to the beach was in order. Jack ran around and threw rocks into the bay.

He took pictures with his camera and wore himself right out.

 There was a gorgeous sunset.

It was Wyatt's first time to the beach. I think he liked it, just like Mommy.

Jack fell asleep in the car about 4 minutes into the 10 minute drive home.
