Two and a half!

Dear Jack,
It's so hard to believe that you are two and a half...Over the last couple of months, your curiosity has really taken hold and you are constantly asking questions about everything and sometimes it just cracks me and your Daddy up. You were walking down the stairs the other day and like I always do, I was walking down in front of you. You started your round of questions...

Is it a big step?
Are those balusters?
Am I a big boy?

And then you asked a question that made me laugh out loud...

Do you have eyes?

I am assuming this question just popped into your head as I was eye level with you a few steps below. I just love getting a glimpse into what is going through your little brain and it makes me happy that right now you just say whatever's on your mind. Along with your blossoming sense of curiosity, you're also becoming more independent. I can no longer open doors, twist off caps, or hold or turn the pages of the book that I am reading to you. This can be challenging (for both of us), but I know that you are just growing up and that you really are my big boy.

Jack is TWO!

Dear Jack,
Two years ago today, I got the best job ever. It just doesn't seem possible that I've been your Mommy for two whole years! Witnessing you become such a smart, hilarious, independent little boy has been an incredible journey. You are such a little sponge...even when you don't seem like you're listening, you are. You are just taking it all in. Over the past couple of weeks, you've started to count.... I even heard you practicing in your crib the other day (one, free, four, nine, twelve). And today before your nap, we sang the alphabet song (twice) and you sang right along with me even the last part (next time won't you sing with me).  You say my favorite part of the song (L M N O P) like this, "L M N Poopy." At the end of every song we sing you always clap your hands and say, "Yay!" You are always surprising Daddy and me with all of the words you know... Like how you say "coffee" every time we pass a dunkin donuts! Sometimes, you let Mommy and Daddy sleep in until 8:30 on Saturday mornings because you are so content just playing in your crib. You always let us know when you're ready to see us though. And it's just about the sweetest sound in the world when I go into your room and you say, "hi mommy!"

I am so lucky to be your mom and I can't wait to see where this journey takes us.  Happy Birthday baby boy!  I love you.

Dear Jack

Dear Jack,

Just a little note to ask you to please take your time growing up. There really is no rush.  Sometimes I just want to bottle you up as you are, but then I remember that I love seeing your joy as you discover the world around you. Everyday I am amazed at how much you are changing and how your little brain is just taking it all in. You are so smart and you love to figure out how things work (just like Daddy). Your sweet personality is shining through more than ever in that adorable smile and belly laugh.  Your laugh, by the way, is the best sound ever and we are so lucky you have such a great sense of humor, because that means we get to hear it all the time! Although I've told myself many times before that "this is my favorite stage," this one really is my favorite (for now).

Love, Mommy
